Langkawi Eagle Square

Langkawi Eagle Square

Also known as Eagle Square, Dataran Lang is one of Langkawi’s best known manmade attractions, a large sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight. A sight that greets visitors to the island via ferry, the 12 metre-tall statue is one of the island’s most instantly recognizable monuments.

Located at the southeast corner of Pulau Langkawi, besides offering beautiful views of Kuah Bay, Dataran Lang has beautiful miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, making it the ideal place for those postcard-perfect holiday photos. The square is a good place to watch ferries ply across the harbour but plan a trip here early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is at its least intense.

If you take interest in museums having rare collections, artwork, show crafts & exhibits that provide rich reflections of history and culture from all over the world, then you will love to visit Galeria Perdana. It is a museum created to showcase all the gifts, souvenirs and awards received by the fourth and the longest serving Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad (who was fondly known as Dr. M) and his wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah bt. Mohd. Ali.

All the gifts and souvenirs were given by delegates, statesmen and leaders from all over the world, Malaysians as well as guests and friends of the family during Tun's tenure of service as the Prime Minister.

Tun deeply felt that all such gifts & souvenirs which he received being the representative head of the country, are public properties and should be made accessible to the public. Crocodile Farm Langkawi

Crocodile Farm Langkawi

Crocodile show time

Known locally as Taman Buaya, the Crocodile Farm is located in Datai Bay area at the north western end of the island. The entire farm area is spread across some 20 acres of land area out of which about half the area is accessible to tourists and visitors.

The farm is nestled in lush greenery with mountains as the backdrop. Looks quite impressive from outside. You will see one of the largest collections of crocodiles in the farm, of different species and sizes numbering over 1000 and comprising of both crocodiles and alligators (it's not easy to differentiate between the two types unless you are knowledgeable in the subject). While many crocs have been imported, lots are bred & reproduced in the farm. The entire farm is divided into several sections or concertized ponds. There are placards at each section giving information about the crocodiles in that section. Some of the ponds are quite small and looking at the number of crocs kept there, you may feel a bit sad and wish larger space was given.

Open Hours
Open daily 10am to 6pm.

Lubuk Sembilang Langkawi

Lubuk Sembilang Langkawi

A 5 kilometer of trekking from Durian Perangin waterfall leads you to the Raya Mountain and from there another 5 kilometer will take you to this lovely waterfall called Lubuk Sembilang.
This Waterfall is a nature park where waters rush down moderately with 2 kilometer river stream over a million steep rocks. This place is perfect for swimming and for ones interested in trekking through lush green jungle.

Telaga Tujuh Langkawi

Telaga Tujuh Langkawi

Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls is billed as the island’s most wonderful natural attraction. Set on Langkawi’s western headlands, its name means Seven Wells Waterfalls, referring to a series of seven connected natural pools fed by seven separate waterfalls in Mount Mat Cincang.

Managed by the Berjaya Leisure (part of the bigwig Berjaya Group), there is an ugly pipeline that runs next to the pools and the waterfall goes all the way to the Berjaya Langkawi Beach Resort. This development has resulted in reducing the water flow at the pools during the wet season to a reserved cascade and a trickle in dry season.

Address: Telaga Harbour Park, 07000 Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia

Beras Terbakar Langkawi

Beras Terbakar Langkawi

Locally the place is known as Beras Terbakar which means Field of Burnt Rice. Although there is nothing much to see there now, it has a lot of historic significance. When the battle broke out between Siam and Langkawi at Pancur Straits in 1821, at one stage the then chief of Langkawi's Army Dato Kemboja realized that soon the Siamese would capture the island.

Padang Matsirat had been the main place in the island with vast stretches of paddy (rice) fields. And rice has always been the main source of supply and means of livelihood in the island. In order to prevent it from falling in the hands of enemy, the Army Chief immediately sent a messenger to Padang Matsirat and ordered the villagers in the area to collect all their paddy harvest and burn them.

The villagers brought all their harvest to this place which is located in the house compound of Ku Halim Bin Ku Hassan in Kampung Raja who was then the king and the place was the ancient capital of the island. They dug a huge hole in a field at this place, put all the collected paddy and burnt the entire crop.

Tanjung Rhu Langkawi

Tanjung Rhu Langkawi

Located just beyond Pantai Pasir Hitam, Tanjung Rhu has one of Langkawi’s best shorelines. The waters are as clear as crystal, the sand is powder-fine and driving towards this beach you’ll have to pass a dense corridor of jungle. The area is absolutely secluded and the atmosphere is silent and peaceful. Bordered by intermittent limestone crags, Tanjung Rhu is gorgeously breathtaking and even though it may be as hot as Hades in some of the other areas of Langkawi, here the air is crisp, clean and cool.

There are a few roadside stalls selling Langkawi’s local favourite – mee gulung – but other than that the area is quiet. Featuring clean roads, this quarter of Langkawi Island is the domicile of the Tanjung Rhu Resort as well as the Four Seasons Resort and the well-heeled tend to gravitate here.

Kok Beach Langkawi

Kok Beach Langkawi

The beach along Pantai Kok is dominated by mostly high-end upscale resorts like the Sheraton and Tanjung Sanctuary. The beach is beautiful with clean sands and clear waters but it’s the tourist attractions, as well as the relative peace and quiet, that makes this place so popular.

Lined with a thoroughly modern marina, Pantai Kok, on the western part of the island approximately 12km north of Pantai Cenang, fronts a beautiful bay surrounded by limestone hills and verdant jungle. On the waterfront, at Teluk Burau, is the spanking-new Telaga Harbour Park, a yachting marina with a string of shops, bars and restaurants, plus a petrol station, bank and post office. Additionally it has several recreational attractions including a cable-car ride to the peak of Mat Cincang Mountain and the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls.

Pantai Kok’s relatively undisturbed locale as well as its verdant greenery makes it doubly popular – especially if you love nature or want a quieter holiday destination.

Tengah Beach Langkawi

Girl Guard for girl customer

Situated just around the southern road bend of Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah is a basically a continuation of Pantai Cenang. It is the longest stretch of beach in Langkawi – there are a few basic chalets here as well as a few big, all-inclusive resorts here that are especially popular with young families.

There’s not much sightseeing here; truth be told that’s the case for most of Langkawi Island. However, there are more than a few ways to kick back and relax; spas are a dime a dozen and finding a tour operator to liven your day up with an island-hopping or mangrove eagle-feeding tour is as easy as pie. Pantai Tengah is a good place for gastronomic options and the nightlife scene here is definitely something to shout about but shopping outlets are sparse.

Cenang Beach Langkawi

Cenang Beach Langkawi

Pantai Cenang – Langkawi’s main vein – may not be as rowdy as the Las Vegas strip but it is Malaysia’s most developed west-coast beach; its shores are a gorgeous mix of white sand, crystalline turquoise-blue waters and verdant palms.

Crammed with mostly budget to mid-range hotels, Pantai Cenang – located 25 km west of Kuah – is also home to more than a few high-end resorts. When the sun goes down a peculiar jumble of backpackers, expats, Asian tourists and families throng the main road to eat, drink and window shop.
